Yrna, a former hostel owner in San Jose and a native Costa Rican, has the honor of presenting the "Pura Vida" hood. To ensure it remains accessible to the public, the hood was passed on within the family—specifically to her sons Pablo and Alexander and their wife Gabriela—to be displayed at their spa hotel in Alajuela. Travelers to Costa Rica should know that the locals take great pride in their diverse flora and fauna and strive to live in conscious harmony with nature. Their motto: PURA VIDA. The hood depicts a glimpse of Costa Rica’s flora and fauna, including monkeys, butterflies, armadillos, frogs, hummingbirds, parrots, turtles, snakes, squirrels, wild cats, and various plants and flowers. Guests staying at the spa hotel can have the hood brought to their room; the owners are proud of their country's nature and the hood itself, and they are happy to show it to interested guests.
